Deaths of two retired police officers announced

Two longtime former St. Joseph Police Department officers have died in recent days.

James “Jim” Connors, 79, died on Aug. 2. After stints including horse jockey, radio personality, television weatherman, wrestling announcer, shop owner and car salesman, Connors served as a police officer for 33 years, retiring as a commander from the St. Joseph Police Department.

Greg Gilpin, 68, died on Aug. 3. He was employed with the St. Joseph Police Department for 33 years, retiring as a sergeant.

A farewell service for Connors is set for Monday, Aug. 12, at Grace Calvary Chapel. A service for Gilpin is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 9, at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
