The Electrek American Solar Challenge is visiting the Pony Express Museum in St. Joseph on Tuesday, July 23.

This bi-annual competition, in collaboration with the National Trails System, is to design, build and drive solar-powered cars across several states and more than 1,500 miles.

The race will take contestants to multiple historic landmarks, including the Pony Express Museum.

St. Joseph residents can view the solar cars and talk to contestants on Tuesday until 8 p.m. The State Winner presentation will take place at 8:15 p.m., welcoming the teams to St. Joseph.

St. Joseph will be stage two of the race, with stage three beginning at the museum at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24. Stage three takes contestants to Homestead National Historic Park in Beatrice, Nebraska.
