Mary L. Pepple, 80, St. Joseph, passed away Monday, July 15, 2024, at a local healthcare facility.
She was born on Jan. 15, 1944, to Walter and Dixie (Hare) Wilson, in St. Joseph.
She graduated from Central High School and later attended Platt Junior Business College.
She worked as a public relations specialist for the American Angus Association before working as a sales clerk for over 15 years at JC Penney. She later returned to her role at the American Angus Association for a combined total of 27 years of employment.
Mary was united in marriage to Fred Pepple on Sept. 23, 1994. He preceded her in death on Sept. 7, 2011, after nearly 17 years of marriage. During their time together, Mary took over the role of being a wonderful caregiver during Fred’s health issues.
After Fred and Mary retired, they enjoyed traveling, fishing and spending time at the lake with family. They retired to Warsaw, Missouri, where they were members of the St. Anne’s Catholic Church.
Mary was a devout Catholic with a heart of gold and a witty sense of humor. Her loved ones describe her as the kindest, most gentle and patient woman who gave her heart and soul to everyone. She always put others first, and never had a harsh word for anyone.
She always took special occasions the extra mile, especially birthdays. Mary also enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, gardening and watching The Young & the Restless. Her favorite pastime was being with her family, whom she loved deeply. She especially loved spending quality time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Wilson; her mother and step-father, Dixie and Virgil Bashor; her beloved husband, Fred; her son, Duane Clark Sheets II; and her first husband and father of her children, Duane Sheets.
Survivors include her daughter, Michelle Cobb (Thomas); grandchildren, Amanda Connett (Lucas), Kelsey Baker (Josh) Matthew Cobb (Megan) and Brandon Cobb (Julie); great-grandchildren, Claire, Caroline, and William Connett, Ava and Knox Baker, Samuel and Margaret Cobb, and Walter and Brooks Cobb; and other extended family members.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Tabitha Karr, Kathy Williams, and the caring staff at the Gower Convalescent Center for the compassionate care given to Mary during her time of illness.
Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, St. Joseph Cathedral Catholic Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Gower
Convalescent Center or Friends of the Animal Shelter in her memory.
