A 22-year-old woman died and two children were hospitalized after suffering serious injuries in a crash Thursday afternoon, 3 miles east of Lathrop.

Ayrika Ross, 22, of Raytown, Missouri, was traveling west on Missouri Route 116 in a Dodge Charger and attempted to overtake another vehicle when the Charger traveled off the roadway, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol crash reports. In an attempt to overcorrect, Ross went off the other side of the road way and struck a private drive and culvert.

The Charger then went airborne, and it came to rest on its drivers side off the roadway.

Ross was seriously injured and pronounced dead after being taken to Liberty Hospital. An 8-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy were seriously injured and also taken to Liberty Hospital.

Ross was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is unknown if the children were wearing seatbelts.
