One local craft fair owner finds ways to get kids involved with art

Tammy Hess has been the owner of Mystic Shows 71 for about a year now.
“So, I couldn’t find a craft show when I first moved back to town, so I was like, ‘let’s just start one of our own,’” said Hess.
She says her show has been slowly growing in vendors over the past year as she’s been increasing her advertisements and trying to bring in more customers.
One thing that she’s looking to do to continue to expand her show is by creating ways for young entrepreneurs to get involved with craft shows.
“So we wanna start what’s called ‘Kids Corner,’ where the youth 14 and under who do crafting, such as, as an example, 3D printing, crocheting, making soaps or jewelries, anything like that that they’re hand making at home,” said Hess. “They can bring (crafts) into our show and take one of our vendor spots outside under the covered awning, which normally runs $15, and we’re going to offer that to them for August, September and October for only $5.”
Hess says that Kids Corner would create an environment where kids can learn how to run their own business and handle money, create connections, etc.
“My goal is to hopefully get them into the business world, learn more about entrepreneurship because it can be very rewarding,” said Hess. “Just in the friendships you make with the networking.”
Hess says she already has one young entrepreneur ready for the first Kids Corner show on Aug. 4, 2024.
Mystic Shows 71 holds its craft shows every first Sunday of the month at Preferred Community Center at 14375 Highway 71, Unit 2, Savannah, Missouri.
The dates for Kids Corner craft shows will be on Aug. 4, Sept. 1 and Oct. 6.
The show runs from 12 to 4 p.m.
Hess says to email her at MysticShows71@gmail.com for more information and applications for Kids Corner.
