MT. VERNON, Mo. – Edith Vance, formerly Taylor, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away on June 30, 2024. She was 79 years old.

Edith was a spitfire of a person. She had a huge personality packed into a tiny body. She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother. She packed more into her life than most. Edith was an extremely hard worker. From owning a restaurant, owning a resort, working as a farmer in Maitland and Skidmore, working as an E.M.T., working as a dietary aide, volunteering at thrift stores, gift shops and at a senior citizen organization, being a promotional advisor for Budweiser, and an unofficial farmers wives club organizer, she never slowed down nor strayed from hard work. She advanced her education as a certified Emergency Medical Technician and a certified dietician.

Edith loved women’s softball. She played pitcher in both fast and slow pitch. She also went on to be a coach. Her teams went to state and nationals many times over. She played well into her fifties. She was a huge country music fan. Not only did she personally know Ernest Tubb but also Conway Twitty and the Twitty birds. She also personally knew Harley Race and Mr. T among numerous other music and Hollywood stars.

Edith was one of 13 siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband; father, mother; two brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by her three sons, Billy, Jim, and Donnie; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
