Roger Edwin Vanover, 78, St. Joseph, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Sept. 28, 1945, in Gentry, Missouri, to Gerald “Perky” and Mary (Summa) Vanover. He was a graduate of Lafayette High School. In his younger years Roger enjoyed bowling, playing softball and basketball. He never missed the annual Lafayette Alumni Tournament. Later in life he kept his love of sports going as an avid fan of the Chiefs, Royals and Mizzou.

Roger proudly served his country as a civil engineer in the U.S. Air Force for eight years and the Air National Guard for 14 years, retiring as Senior Master Sergeant.

He owned and operated Taco Bandido on St. Joseph Avenue for 25 years.

Roger married Theresa Miller on Sept. 30, 2001. She survives of the home.

Roger loved his children and grandchildren very much. He and Theresa enjoyed taking many vacations together and then with the grandchildren, with Hawaii, Walt Disney World and Branson being most memorable.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Theresa; son, Scott Vanover; daughter, Kim Roesle (Scott); stepchildren, Kim Ho (Gordon) and Dustin Zook; grandchildren, Emma Seckinger, Avery Zook, Stella Ho, Max Ho, and Lila Ho; extended family and friends.

Farewell Services and Public Livestream 10 a.m. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Mount Auburn Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family suggests memorial contributions to Mosaic Life Care Cancer Center or Mosaic Life Care Hospice.
