5:36 p.m. | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Buchanan County until 6:15 p.m.


Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas this afternoon and evening as a low-pressure system tracks across the area.

Here’s the latest on what to expect:

SEVERE THREAT TODAY: ENHANCED RISK

TIMING: 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday

THREAT LEVEL: 3 (of 5)

HAZARDS: Damaging winds, heavy rain, spotty hail, isolated tornadoes

Isolated thunderstorms are expected to develop after 3 p.m. Tuesday, increasing in coverage and intensity through the late afternoon and evening hours. While the primary hazards will be damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and up to half-dollar-sized hail with some storms, locally heavy rainfall and a brief tornado are also possible.
