A longstanding national society that promotes patriotism and community service will form its own chapter in St. Joseph in the coming weeks.

Local members of the Sons of the American Revolution are set to hold an organizational meeting to start a new chapter in Northwest Missouri.

All current members of Sons of the American Revolution are invited to attend a 9 a.m. meeting on Saturday, Aug. 10, in the Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory Community Room, 5005 Frederick.

Meeting parking will be available on the backside of the funeral home.

Formed in 1889 in New York, the nonprofit corporation honors Revolutionary War patriot ancestors by promoting patriotism, serving communities, educating and inspiring future generations about the founding principles of the United States.

On-hand at the meeting will be SAR genealogists to assist those interested in researching their ancestors to help with family trees and applications for membership.

The new organization will join St. Joseph alongside the existing Daughters of the American Revolution, which has been in place locally since 1898.
