Daniel Charles Borkowski, 68, of St. Joseph, passed away on June 3, 2024.
Dan was born on Dec. 7, 1955, to Clarence Carl and Eva Frances (nee Sexton) Borkowski Sr., in St. Joseph. Dan was the youngest of seven children. After Dan graduated from Lafayette High School in 1974, he went on to study Mathematics at Missouri Western State College.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education in Mathematics he taught for two years before leaving to attend Northeast Missouri State University (Truman State), Northwest Missouri State University achieving his Master of Science in Education and continuing at University of Missouri – Kansas City earning his Specialist in Educational Administration.
While finishing these degrees, he started teaching at Kearney R-I School District in 1982 where he culminated a 32-year career teaching math, coaching both boys and girls basketball, football and softball. Dan thrived in the classroom giving his students a love of math and on the field supporting their passion and driving them to great accomplishments.
In 2015, Dan retired and continued to manage In School Suspension and tutor students at Mathnasium for another five years.
Dan was predeceased by his father, Clarence Carl Borkowski Sr.; his mother, Eva Frances Borkowski; his brothers, Clarence Carl “Junior” Borkowski Jr. and Steven Cary Borkowski; brothers-in-law, Jere Buttimer and Robert Hebden.
He is survived by sisters, Mary Etta Laine (Robert), Nancy Buttimer, Cathy Hebden; and brother, Thomas Borkowski.
Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Friday, St. Francis Xavier Church. Inurnment Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Parish Rosary 5 p.m., Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The family will gather with friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Catholic Charities or St. Francis Xavier Church.
