Michael K. Simpson, 72, St. Joseph, passed away Tuesday, June 11, 2024.

He was born Feb. 22, 1952, in St. Joseph, to Ralph and Virginia (Flannery) Simpson. He grew up in Home City, Kansas, then the family moved back to St. Joseph when Michael started junior high. Michael was a 1970 graduate of Central High School.

Michael married Diane Marie Mullins on April 5, 1980. She survives of the home.

He worked at his father’s filling station, then at Mead Paper for several years before earning his trade electrician certification. He worked in the trade for 35 years, mostly at Schultz Electric, and retired in 2007.

In retirement, Michael became an avid motorcycle enthusiast. He made many trips to Sturgis on his Harley. He enjoyed sports, especially the Chiefs and Royals.

An outgoing fellow who never met a stranger, Michael was always the life of any conversation.

He loved spending time with his pets and grandkids, creating lasting memories his family will treasure.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Diane; children, Lindsey Strong (Brandon) and Scott Simpson (Kassandra); grandchildren, Kaleigh and Brett Strong, and Channing and Carter Simpson; several extended family members and friends.

Farewell Services 3 p.m. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Private Inurnment Whispering Pines Cremation Garden at St. Joseph Memorial Park at a later date. The family will gather with friends 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Agency Christian Church or Show-Me Christian Youth Homes.
