The Fab-U-Less Finds thrift store is closing and will have a clearance sale beginning Tuesday, Jan. 14.

The clearance sale at AFL-CIO Community Services’ Fab-U-Less Finds thrift store begins on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Everything in the store at 1203 N. Sixth St. is 50% off unless otherwise marked. The store will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.

A closing date has not been set but will depend on inventory and additional items will be added as the sale continues.

The thrift store began more than 40 years ago, as a small, free “clothes closet” for Community Services’ clients. When the agency expanded into its current location in 2000, the store was opened to the general public and sales were used to help support Community Services’ operational costs.

“While we certainly are disappointed to close the thrift store, this move will benefit the agency’s other programs by allowing for resources to be focused on their growth,” said Nichi Seckinger, AFL-CIO Community Services’ executive director. “For example, the Diaper Depot program has grown nearly tenfold in the past year and a half, and we will be able to utilize part of the store’s footprint to expand that program.”

Program-focused events also will be held in the space going forward and the Adopt-A-Family gift room will expand into the area as well.

Community Services intends to continue to offer a voucher program but it will temporarily be halted until the new process can be finalized. Any remaining Adopt-A-Family 2024 gift vouchers will be honored until Jan. 31, however, items will not be discounted.

No further donations of items for the thrift store will be accepted. Items can be donated to the Pivotal Point thrift store at 4826 Frederick Ave., the Good Samaritan thrift store at 702 Messanie St. or other local non-profit organizations.

Donations of new items for Community Services’ Adopt-A-Family Christmas and the Soles For Christ shoe distribution programs will continue to be accepted throughout the year.
