Juneteenth continues with annual parade

Despite the tumultuous rain to start the morning, the St. Joseph Juneteenth parade turned out to be a success.
From dancers to classic cars, the Juneteenth parade had something for everyone. Spectators lined the streets as the parade took off from Bode Middle School. From there, they traveled down Noyes Blvd and turned right onto Messanie. Lastly, the parade turned onto 18th Street to conclude at the Bartlett Center.
First time attendee, Mary Kate Masters, says she’s glad she waited out the rain. She says it was an amazing experience.
“My favorite experience was the drumline. Those kids are so talented and that was my favorite part,” said Masters.
“We all went and sat in our cars for a bit. But I think most people kind of stuck it out and we got back out and they’re ready to go.”
When it comes to the importance of Juneteenth, she believes St. Joseph holds a lot of history.
“Celebrating all the celebrations that matter to everyone is super important,” she said.
Masters says she’ll be returning next year for the Juneteenth parade and she’s ready to enjoy more festivities at the Bartlett Center.
Upon the parade’s arrival at the Bartlett Center, guests could enjoy a wide array of activities. For more event information, visit stjosepmuseums.org/juneteenth.
