LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – Ray D. Miller, 88, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed to his Heavenly Father Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Homestead Assisted Living. He was born in Forest City, Missouri, on Feb. 9, 1936, to Herbert William Miller and Ruby Mae (Robinson) Miller.
He graduated from Maitland High School, Maitland, Missouri, and the University of Kansas School of Business.
Ray proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1975. He then worked at the Leavenworth VA, Leavenworth National Cemetery and in Auditing/Accounting at Fort Leavenworth and at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) in Kansas City, Missouri, retiring from there in 1998.
He was a long time member of Crossroads United Methodist Church, Lansing, Kansas, University of Kansas Alumni and the K.U. Jayhawk Society.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Gail L. Miller; his parents; five sisters, Irene Rowlette, Lorene Miles, Mildred Weston, Helen Hayden and Wilma Miles; and one brother, Herbert L. Miller.
He is survived by two sons, Jeffrey (Debbie) Miller and Mark (Karen) Miller; six grandchildren, Kevin (Cassie) Miller, John (Racheal) Miller, Jennifer (Spencer) Jacobs, Chad Miller, Ashley Miller and Paige Miller; 10 great- grandchildren, Haddie. Pearl, Jude, Brigham and Nora Miller, Ava and Graeme Miller, and Lucille, Hazel and Nelson Jacobs; a brother, Glenn (Pam) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved his Lord and family dearly.
Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2024, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Crossroads United Methodist Church.
