A juvenile in Randolph County is recovering after she was attacked by several dogs on Tuesday, according to a news release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.

The attack happened at a home on Main Street in Huntsville. When a deputy arrived, he found the victim with "numerous lacerations" and said the dogs were still trying to attack the girl.

Due to aggressive behavior by the dogs, the deputy killed at least one of the animals, according to a news release.

When attempting to intervene, the dogs became aggressive toward the deputy, and he was forced to deploy lethal force, the sheriff’s office said. The other dogs were retrieved by the owner.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment; her current condition is unknown.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the news release.
