A 69-year-old died on Thursday after what authorities said is an apparent accident involving a grain bin in the rural Buchanan County area.

Cmdr. Michael Donaldson said that Buchanan County Sheriff deputies found the man, who has not yet been named, dead near the intersection of U.S. Highway 169 and Missouri Highway E. Authorities had originally been called to assist a person who they had understood to be trapped in a grain bin, Donaldson said. The bin is located on a farm in that area, Donaldson said. The intersection is about four miles northwest of Gower.

“The investigation is currently ongoing, but appears to be an accident,” Donaldson said in a news release.
