LAURIE, Mo. – William “Bill” Pauly died surrounded by family on May 12, 2024, Ascension Sunday. Born Jan. 11, 1952, to Gerald and Helena (Gronniger) Pauly, Bill was the fifth of six children.
He was raised on the farm near Purcell, Kansas, and graduated from Midway High School in 1969. When not farming or feeding cattle his family spent time at the Lake of the Ozarks. Bill was a talented water skier when he was younger. Until 1976, he served in the National Guard.
He married Elizabeth (Cramer) Jan. 7, 1978. They had three children.
He was always active in his community. He volunteered with Farm Bureau, Kansas Livestock Association, National Corn Growers Association, Kansas Agricultural Rural Leadership, and Midway Booster Club.
An ATV accident on Oct. 31, 2001, left him paralyzed. Eventually he moved full time to Lake of the Ozarks and began his life’s second chapter.
Bill was a devout Catholic. He was active on parish council, finance council, as a lector, extraordinary minister, catechist, and a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Mary’s, in Purcell, and St. Patrick’s, in Laurie, Missouri.
Preceded by parents and brother, James Pauly.
Survived by Elizabeth, his wife; siblings, Betty Knecht, Bob Pauly, Mary McCauley, Kathy Albers; children, Jerry (Kathryn), Mindy (Jason), Matt (Jessica); and grandchildren, Katelyn, William, Lily, Madilyn, Frances, Ambrose, and TBD.
The family would like to thank Kathy Albers, Dr. Bradley Gaul, and the Mosaic health team for their support in the final weeks.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 15, at St. Mary’s, in Purcell. Rosary and visitation: 1 p.m. Funeral Mass: 2 p.m. Reception with light refreshments in church hall afterwards. A celebration of life will be held at St. Patrick’s, in Laurie, Missouri, at later a date.
