Missouri Western makes administrative changes

By Marcus Clem
A new executive of programs such as nursing and information technology will be in place this summer at Missouri Western State University, in the wake of the departure of the campus’ No. 2 official.
Joan Brewer is named as the next dean of the College of Science and Health. She has most recently served as dean of the Teachers College at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. Brewer will take up the previous post of Crystal Harris, who retired in 2023. Michael Ducey is to serve as interim dean through June 30.Â
“I look forward to working with faculty and staff to continue the tradition of high-impact, real-world learning experiences and engaging with the St Joseph community in ways that move both MWSU and the community forward,” Brewer said in a news release.
The dean reports to the Office of the University Provost, which oversees all academics. Laura Reynolds, having served as provost since summer 2022, departed Missouri Western in March, ahead of taking up a new position at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. A search process will be done for Reynolds’ replacement. Joel Hyer serves as interim provost.Â
“(Brewer) has a wealth of experience as a faculty member and an administrator, and will be focused on helping our faculty ensure that all students are able to become successful, competent and confident professionals in their field,” Hyer said in a news release.Â
