Rise in motorcyclist accidents

Motorcycles account for a small percentage of the total number of vehicles on the road.
Despite that, a National Safety Council analysis of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicates that motorcyclists accounted for 14% of all traffic fatalities, 17% of all occupant fatalities and 3% of all occupant injuries in 2021.
More than 5,900 motorcyclist deaths occurred in 2021, a figure that far surpassed any other year between 2007 and 2021. And it wasn’t just fatal injuries that rose, as the NSC reports that nonfatal injuries among motorcyclists increased by 5% between 2020 and 2021.
Recognition of these figures is important, and it’s equally notable that 83% of motorcyclist fatalities occurred in good weather, and a little more than half (53%) involved two vehicles.
